Book Review + Reflections
The Sealed Nectar gives the reader a basic knowledge about the life of the greatest personality that has ever walked through the face of the earth, Prophet Muhammed ﷺ. Translated in simple plain English, the book concisely covers the important parts of Seerah. It is important to understand that no scholar or author can do justice in their work when it comes to describing the life of Prophet Muhammed ﷺ.
The book begins with a few chapters on pre-Islamic Arabia. Knowledge about the various tribes and the relations between them are established in these chapters. Separate chapters are allocated for understanding the cultural, political, and economic situation of pre-Islamic Arabia. These are followed by chapters on the early life of Prophet ﷺ before Prophethood.
The Prophethood of Muhammed ﷺ was divided into the Makkan and Madani periods. The Makkan period teaches us about the intense struggle the Prophet ﷺ and the early Companions (May Allah be pleased with them) faced. The various narrations and the context of revelation associated with this period are also explained in the book. Important conversions such as Hamza and Umar (May Allah be pleased with both of them) are described.
The Madani period is also described concisely with all the important battles and delegations that took place. The chapters on Badr and Uhud are amongst the longest of all chapters. The rise of Muslims under the Prophet ﷺ was clearly depicted. The details of the Treaty of Hudhaybiyyah and the great promise of Allah: The Conquest of Makkah are narrated in a simple way in the book.
The battles that took place after and the letters sent under the name of Prophet Muhammed ﷺ calling other nations to Islam are shown in the book. A large number of Muslims poured into Islam in large groups after the Conquest of Makkah. The final sermon of the Prophet ﷺ and his heartbreaking event of death are narrated in the last chapters of the book.
Overall, Sealed Nectar remains the first choice recommendation for anyone who is interested to know more about the life of Prophet Muhammed ﷺ.
